Water Chemistry by Benjamin,Mark. Robert Arnold, University of Arizona. A very good book on water chemistry from environmental perspective

Water Chemistry by Benjamin,Mark. McGraw-Hill Math,2001). I was glad to see you have corrected the typographical errors in the previous publisher's version. - Paul Chadik, University of Florida. Thorough and well-organized with extensive problems. A very good book on water chemistry from environmental perspective. It is mostly understandable and easy to follow even for a non-chemist. I definitely wish I'd know better these topics in our practice of preparing and maintaining growth media for algal cultures.

University of Washington. UW Civil & Environmental Engineering. In recent years, his emphasis has been on adsorption-based technologies to remove natural organic matter from water and enhance the performance of membranes.

David Dzombak, Carnegie-Mellon University.

The book will serve well many future generations of students of water chemistry. -David Dzombak, Carnegie-Mellon University. Professor Benjamin is one of the best writers in this area. His discussions of how to solve acid/base, precipitation, and redox are exceptionally clear and easy to use.

For over a decade, Mark Benjamin’s Water Chemistry has brought to the . The entire book now integrates Visual Minteq-the most popular software for analyzing chemical equilibria-into the problem-solving approach.

Aquatic chemistry students need a solid foundation in fundamental concepts as well as numerical techniques for solving the variety of problems they will encounter as practicing engineers. Additional exercises range more widely in difficulty, giving instructors more flexibility and diversity in their assignments.

This book effectively conveys the key concepts of equilibrium chemistry, particularly as they apply to natural and engineered aquatic systems. The coverage is rigorous and thorough, but the author assumes little prior knowledge of chemistry on the part of the readers, and writes in a style that is easily accessible to students.

Good coverage of water chemistry topics. Good support for problems (solutions available from author). Good coverage of different approaches to solving problems (e.g., proton condition, tableau) rather than sticking to just one approach. Good integration of chemical equilibrium code Visual Minteq -- how to use, problems using Visual Minteq, data for pKa values, stability constants, solubility products, and pe0 values from Visual Minteg. Been using for about ten years. Students use the book!

I completed this class about three years ago, so I can't remember all the specifics on the book. However, I thought the textbook is a good read, explaining the water chemistry concepts well, particularly about pH. If you need a textbook on water chemistry, this is a good one to have, in my opinion.
Garr
Typical science book, monotone and difficult to comprehend without professional guidance.
Small Black
Very difficult to understand. Author could use a much more reader friendly writing style. And I'm in engineering.
Kulasius
bought it as a textbook. at least it's good for the course...
btw, i like this cover picture better than that after they changed publisher. yet the lay out and paging are all the same in two versions.
