The Scarlet Thread book. THE MOST disappointing Francine Rivers novel, and I'm so disgusted. Women as subservient, quiet pawns in the game of men? No, that is NOT how God intended our marriages to be.

Francine Rivers, winner of the ECPA Gold Medallion, has been writing for almost thirty years. Her books have received numerous awards and have endeared her to millions of readers. First of all I absolutely love Francine Rivers, her writing style and the subject matter of her books. It takes place during current time and back during our westward expansion. The current time period deals with the dissolution of a marriage and the problem I have with it is that the fault, according to the author, lies with the wife.

If I were to sell out and move, I’d want to go farther north to Garberville. I haven’t the money to hang on to this place for sentimental reasons. She ran her hand along the dusty mantle and looked at the old Seth Thomas mantle clock. It had run down months ago. Even with the furnace on, the house had a musty smell of disuse. The only other alternative is to rent the place out, and I don’t want to do that either.

First of all I absolutely love Francine Rivers, her writing style and the subject matter of her books. However, I couldn't give this book 5 stars because I didn't like the subject matter of this particular book. It takes place during current time and back during our westward expansion. The current time period deals with the dissolution of a marriage and the problem I have with it is that the fault, according to the author, lies with the wife. This is an obnoxious, unlike able husband, so I have a problem with that aspect of the book. When the story goes back in time, it's much better. As I stated earlier, I love Ms Rivers, but this book disappointed. The seller was excellent. It was a used book. But in excellent condition, so the price was great. It arrived very quickly.

A beautiful story that makes you realize that no matter how horrible, depressing, and low life gets, God does not abandon you. It only takes a moment to be changed forever. Both of the main characters had singular moments that turned their lives around, and that is encouraging and hopeful. It reminds me to look at myself more instead of pointing to and blaming others- a reminder we all need, at times.

This novel addressed the problem of different expectations that a husband and wife. may have for their future and how selfishness on the part of both leads to division and heartache. However there is hope and change that can restore the relationship. It was a little confusing at first with the modern story intertwined with the diary of an ancestor whose marriage had similar problems but it came together in the end.
The Rollers of Vildar
I've read several of Rivers books and every one is hard to put down. Her characters are alive and struggle with life's issues like everyone else.
This book weaves a modern story, and a story written along the Oregon Trail many years before. Both women share many of the same life struggles and looking back they see how God worked in their lives.

This is the second time I have purchased and read this book. The first time I was in Germany on a tour bus for 15 days, I couldn't put the book down, I felt the wonderful power of my Lord with me in every step I made, I knew He was with me in every cathedral I entered He showed me that even though war could destroy the building, His Love and forgiveness would rebuild. Today after finishing for the second time, I know that my Lord Jesus Christ is telling me again that I need to be living in Him. My renewed belief in Him is my salvation to hold strong and know.
Thank you Francine Rivers, for your wonderful stories that are filled with the love and knowledge of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Francine, as usual, has done a wonderful job of storytelling filled with tension, romance and strong spritual emphasis as well. The split time worked so well in this story. Loved it. Gave it five stars.

I loved this book. You can feel the struggles that the family is going through and know how hard it is to accept what life throws at you. I love all of Francine River's books. She is an amazing author. Although it has a religious undertone, it does not overdo orreach at you if that is something you do not enjoy. I loved the fact that it let's you know how God can work in your life. You will not be dissapointed. Great read!
This really a good book. The writer keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen. Sierra found Jesus through her pain and brokenness Because she found Jesus her life opened up and she saw life in a newness.
