Thoroughly enjoyable book especially for people who enjoy Christian authors. I love to read worthwhile books - this is one of them. After reading a few other books by this author, I wanted to know more about him - within these pages, he discusses his life journey, marriage, education, etc. and his tips on using words to influence and encourage others are excellent. He writes in a folksy and friendly way.

I thoroughly enjoy Chuck Swindoll. I never met him of course, but feel I know him because of his radio ministry "Insight for Living" on WMBI Radio. This book goes into detail about how to communicate graciously, and well with peers and listeners. He goes into the terrible physical problem he had to overcome as a child, and how God brought him the help he needed. He explained how being in the Marine Corps helped him, an unwilling servant at first, to overcome his terrible handicap and go on to be president of a college. Surely the American Dream come true. You won't be disappointed. He is not a stuffed shirt. If he read this review, I believe he would laugh.

Noah Webster, to say the least, made an impact on the language of Americans. Without the life and work of Noah Webster it is hard to imagine where we would be today as a culture of communicators. What he was to our written language Chuck Swindoll is to our language that we speak to one another, especially in any group encounter. In American culture things are the best IF they are a TRIPLE; a Threepeat for a sport team, a Triple Crown for a racehorse, a Triple "something or other" for winning the three biggest golf tournaments in one year and even professional tennis players have as their goal each year to win the three biggest tennis championships in the world in a single year. Likewise in verbal communication TRIPLE is highly important: 1. What you say, 2. How you say it, and 3. Believeability in the person who is giving the message. In this book Chuck Swindoll tells you how to get all three of these elements to work together; Truth, Passion, Integrity. Some suggestions: Please don't go out and buy this book for your pastor. This is an excellent book for parents to read and then lead their teenage children through together with them. Ephesians 6:4 says, "Fathers, do not exasperate your children, instead, bring then up in the training and instruction of the Lord." Teenagers get very frustrated when they do not know how to communicate to others how they would like to see some injustice in the world corrected. This book can give them the tools to: realize an injustice and adequate communicate to others how we can change that injustice into what is right. Two other suggestions: Sunday school and home fellowship groups would highly benefit from this book. Adults helping teenagers, whether in the church or the school, could radically change the course of a person's life. That just what heros do. Last but by no means the least, those currently in our jails and prisons. I wish this book could have been written 50 years ago but it never could have been written 50 years ago. But what about the next 50 years? Many of those who are in prison would not be there had they had the tools to communicate that are in this book. Chances are they will get out of prison without knowing what they need to know about communicating adequately in our culture, get frustrated and trespass against someone again and wind up back in prison, over and over again. Heros can make a different in the future of individual lives and through multiplication eventually a whole culture; our culture. If Noah Webster has ever helped you communicate better in what you do, this book by Chuck Swindoll will help you as much or more. But then the question becomes; If Noah has helped me and Chuck has helped me just who do I help?

Well thought out information for making presentations/speeches or sermons.
As an aspiring Pastor currently in Bible College, I cannot stress enough the value of lessons learned from those who have gone before us. Chuck opens the door to his family life and ministry life and is authentic and honest about where he went wrong and what he did right. His love for Christ and to make Him known is rich throughout the book. Chuck teaches how to Communicate God’s Word effectively.
