John Wyeth was a successful man. At nineteen, he graduated at the top of his class at a respected university. By the age of twenty-two, he had survived three brutal years of warfare, serving as commanding officer for a behind-the-lines reconnaissance platoon. Now at thirty-one, he was the Senior Project Leader for the super secret think tank NATech, and he was very good at what he did. Everyone knew and no one doubted that within a few years he would be the Director. And then he was killed. Sort of. When John "woke up", things were different. Instead of his excellent physical condition, he was caught in a Healer’s Sleep that robbed him of all voluntary movement and all his senses except hearing. Instead of being a respected leader in an organization for good, he was the dependent refugee of an outlawed resistance, one the world government wanted to destroy. Instead of being in the early 21st Century, he was now in the late 27th Century. And instead of being a thirty-one year old man...

Story centers around a guy that was in the middle of working on something when he died. He wakes up in the body of a young girl and learns that he is in the future where scientists can cure people of an issue that is central to the book. Lets say you are reincarnated into many different forms and things. The scientists that revive people dont like this. The bring people back to their original mind and help them live normal lives. This girl is important because she was at the beginning of the whole mess the world is in.

Anyway, good story, good writing. All in all a worthy effort and beginning of the series.

For John Wyeth, life as he knew it was never going to be the same. A man of some prestige in his time, he was arguably the best mind of the early twenty-first century. Working for a secret organization that made the illogical probabable, John was well on his way to making the breakthrough of the millenium by creating genetically engineered humans that could live and breath underwater in the oceans as well as on land. But all that tragically went wrong and he was electrocuted, accidentally!!!??? by the defense systems at his work.

That was the last thing John remembered before he awoke in the later part of the twenty-seventh century. He no longer had his power, he no longer had his prestige, he no longer was thirty one years old, and he was no longer a man.

Now the new life of John is underway as a fourteen year old girl. With the help of his knowledge, and his friends, Susan Lendler, Sarah Grominski, Lt. Sanchez, and Dr. Barrett, John will learn about his new world, the dark secrets it contains, and the power to fix all that has gone wrong to put a power mad entity in complete control of the government.

This is just the first work of Peter Prellwitz, whose novels and stories are all intertwined. From Horizons to The Power of Magic all his books revolve around a very imaginative and creative Universe where the flaws of mankind are magnified hoping to show us the flaws in ourselves. If You like this book read the rest, I have.

This book takes you on a surprising emotional roller coaster that leaves you gasping for breath at the end. It's rare that a character in a book draws me in far enough to bring me to tears, but this one did. A highly enjoyable novel; I can't wait to read book two!

Shards is a good book, introducing ideas that people have never thought of. The rest of the series adds to that. Read the first, like it, read the rest!

Bad storyline, Bad writing, Bad flow, Just plain bad. This was my first book from the lending library and I read about 1/2 of it before I gave up. There isn't one positive thing I can write about it....it's just bad.

The story left a lot to be expected. I didn't particularly like how it was written. The writing itself is fine, but the author isn't very good at actually telling a story. I would look elsewhere for a good read.
