The only hope of survival is to find the Zircon: the only person who can weld the Prism power. However, their kind had all been murdered before the war, and popular belief is that only a Zircon can find a Zircon. Yet, Tarah's grandmother believes that Zircons still exist and claims to have discovered the key to finding one. But there is one problem; Tarah's grandmother is insane. It's up to Tarah to convince her hebdomad (the seven who wield each of the special power of the Irids) that they have no choice but to delve into the past and find a way to save their race. To do so, Tarah must break every rule of Irids, be seduced by the power of darkness and learn the harsh realities of light. Warning: Novel for Adults.

This novel is highly imaginative, but it's a slow starter because you have to figure out so much information. There is a glossary, but it is at the back of the book, which makes it difficult to use when you're reading this via Kindle. I wish the author had included it at the beginning of the book instead of the end.

Despite the sexual situations, this reads more like a young adult novel than an adult novel to me - probably because the main characters (Tarah and her siblings) still come across as young and inexperienced apprentices rather than the almost mavens (experts) that the author tells us that they are. The sexual situations reinforce that by their over-reliance on euphemism, as if the author herself wasn't 100% comfortable with the content. Even when I finished this (not short) book, I still wasn't sure exactly how the novel's world worked. Basically, everybody with special skills just locks themselves in and refuses to engage with the outside world, leaving them to suffer in a semi-feudal state. But there were so many special classes, it was hard to figure out what everybody did. I would have loved it if the author spent more time detailing the economic and political realities of her world and made a final decision on if she wanted to present a young adult fantasy adventure or a more adult version of the same tale.

A fairly complex book for it's length. Started a bit slow but once the momentum got going it was fine. As for the other critique that it was just a sexual fantasy, way too complex for a sexual fantasy. (Lmfao!) Maybe if that person only read a little bit. Need to really get the into the book to understand the situations. The intimacies were used as a romantic overture in a blackmail scheme to save their people. So that critique was so far off, it was laughable. As for the writing style, the writer totally could have expanded this story into a lengthier book. But as it stands with no fluff, it's fine too. And I liked the ending. Thought it wrapped up very well. No overhangs suggesting sequel. Hate those. Anyways, definitely would suggest this book to others.

It took me until about 40% for me to get into this book. Up til that point, it was just setting up the world and the characters. This is typical for this genre, readers arent supposed to be familiar with the setting and that causes problems for the author because they cant just jump into the story. It was a bit like having to do research in order to read the story- most professionally published authors can weave it into the storyline a little better. If you can hang in until the end- its a pretty okay story. Characters you might not have liked get redeemed. The climax is statisfying. Good triumphs over evil.

This book had a stronger ending, which is surprising since most writers seem to spend so much time on the beginning and middles of their stories that they run out of time to work on the ending. If Fantasy is your genre of choice, this story is worth the time it takes to read it.

It was a little slow starting and a little hard to understand but I really liked the journey in the end.

by chapter 5 the heroine had had explicit sex several times, first her fiance attacks her, no hello , just jump the bones. then she has sex with someone she dislikes in order to get what she wants. This definitely someone's sexual fantasy. but NOT Fantasy as I love it. it even beyond Romance novels. which at least have Romance! this book should be in some X rated slot. I just can't get into this story. it is well written and must have a plot somewhere, other then reasons to have sex ....

I read this book after reading, Ruby, Flesh and Heart, and I was not disappointed! The author has a great imagination. I hope that there will be more books to come.

I guess there's a book that was before this one - Ruby something or other. Maybe that gives the background info you need to understand what's going on in this one.

I love sci fi romance as much as the next trekkie generation, but this one was just really hard to get into and follow. There's no background info given in the beginning; you're just supposed to know what the author is talking about.

Glad it was free. :)
