Very typical of Charlotte Lamb, full of emotions. The story line itself reminded me to her other novel, Forbidden Fruit. My feelings toward Vincent and Belinda were ups and downs.

Sheila Holland, née Sheila Ann Mary Coates (22 December 1937 in Dagenham, Essex, England – 8 October 2000 in Isle of Man) was best known under the pseudonym Charlotte Lamb as a prolific romantic novelist. She signed her novels with her married or maiden names – Sheila Holland, Sheila Coates – and under the pseudonyms Sheila Lancaster, Victoria Wolf and Laura Hardy. She was married to Richard Holland.

This book has the same basic plot as "Frustration" also by Charlotte Lamb, but where "Frustration" works this does not. Sad to say, I think we have to lay the fault at our little heroine. She takes the concept of honesty is the best policy to a cruel degree with the hero, and essentially lingers on bed rest far too long to be interesting.

1937 - 8 October 2000. She wrote her first book in three days with three children underfoot! In between raising her five children (including a set of twins), Charlotte wrote several more novels. Sheila Ann Mary Coates was born on 1937 in Essex, England, just before the Second World War in the East End of London. She used both her married and maiden names, Sheila Holland and Sheila Coates, before her first novel as Charlotte Lamb, Follow a Stranger, was published by Mills & Boon in 1973. She also used the pennames: Sheila Lancaster, Victoria Wolf and Laura Hardy. Sheila was a true revolutionary in the field of romance writing.

My take:
3.5 stars

The heroine, Belinda, wakes up from acoma
eight months after having been in a car accident with the hero's brother. You see, at the time of the accident, Belinda was engaged to the hero's spoiled younger brother. On the day Belinda wakes up from acoma, her fiancé, Ricky, is getting married to his childhood sweetheart. He had all but given up hope that she would ever wake up again. The first person she asks for when she wakes is Ricky but of course he is nowhere around. Instead Ricky's brother Vincent comes to the hospital.

Belinda's parents live in Australia*, when her mother is informed that she has come out of coma she hops a plane to London to visit Belinda. Vincent promises Belinda's mother that he will look after her until she is well again.
When she is discharged from the hospital instead of taking her to a house, Vincent takes her to his house where he employs on of his mother's friends, who is a retired nurse, as his housekeeper. It takes Belinda a little time before she figures out that she is in Vincent's home and not a recovery house. Belinda was very upset but after much thinking realizes she has nowhere to go as the world has moved on while she slept for eight months. She settles down attempts to make the best out of a bad situation.

All throughout the book, the heroine uses her love for Ricky to push the hero away. When Vincent finally gives her the opportunity to reunite with Ricky, Belinda realizes that she is not so sure about her feelings anymore. In the beginning, the two battle it out non stop but over time, she slowly but surely falls in love with Vincent. Vincent on the other hand, fell in love with Belinda months ago when he would visit her every day in the hospital. This book has a happy ending of course but I won't give anymore spoilers for those who would prefer to read it themselves. This book is free from the physical violence that some of Lamb's earlier HP books contain.
