Edvard Munch is best known as being a Norwegian born, expressionist painter, and printer. In the late 20th century, he played a great role in German expressionism, and the art form that later followed; namely because of the strong mental anguish that was displayed in many of the pieces that he created. Edvard Munch was born in Norway in 1863, and was raised in Christiania (known as Oslo today). He was related to famous painters and artists in their own right, Jacob Munch (painter), and Peter Munch (historian). Only a few years after he was born, Edvard Munch's mother died of tuberculosis.

The exhibition of Edvard Munch will continue the series of displays in the Tretyakov Gallery of European artists, whose work, related to Russian culture, served as a guide for national artists: Whistler and Russia (2006), Piet Mondrian. The Path to Abstraction (2013), Giorgio de Chirico. Metaphysical Insights (2017) and others.

The limestones come from Solnhofen in Germany and are quite heavy, from 20 to 60 kilos. Usually the surface was ground down after use by the printer, but Munch went to great expenses to keep the stones intact. On some of Munch’s stones there are more than one motif drawn on the surface. On others there is a motif on both sides of the stone, like this one with ‘Madonna’ on one side and ‘Vampire’ on the other.

He delves deeply into the darkest places of the human psyche, making it tangible for all to see, whether they want to or not. This isn't always comforting art, but it's revelatory. A recommended volume!

I am a US women's size 8 1/2 and these fit great. The socks stay up to my knees. They are tight and remain fitted and snug after a couple of washings. So hard to find plain tube socks in cotton, good enough for wearing my rubber boots for yard work. Many tube socks say cotton but are mostly nylon. These are cotton.

My beloved Munch, where would modern art be without you? This book is a testimony to your pioneering brilliance. All hail to the father of modern angst.
