Piano Adventures: Primer. Now, in contrast, the Primer Gold Star Performance book (which I also own) is, IMO, Level 1. I'd say that any student who can tackle the Primer Gold Star Performance book is pretty much by definition a Level 1 student. Ledger notes, harmonic intervals. My son is now going into Level 2A and there's no way he could sight read from the Primer Gold Star Performance book, he'd have to work on those pieces.

Solo piano performances, superlatively performed by Randall and Nancy Faber, are included at the end of the CD. Gold Star characteristics of each piece are listed in the table of contents and a Gold Star music dictionary and certificate conclude the book

After having taught thousands of students at our conservatory of music, we can say that this book has singlehandedly saved more students at the primer level than any other book. We call it our “student saver” book.

We did find that the book is not in order of difficulty, which poses problems in teaching with it unless you pay a lot of attention to what notes, exactly, are used in each song. There are also some songs that are easier than others to teach because of patterns in the melodies.

We recommend this order:
1) Zoom zoom Witch’s Broom
2) Pterodactyls
3) Theme and Variations
4) Hello to the Drums
5) Banappeal (We rewrite the lyrics to be Banana Peel)
6) Pony Express
7) Chugging Choo Choo
8) Eternally Music

The rest of the songs/pieces aren’t as popular so we usually skip them. We always write words for kids that are more creative or who sing.

Kids who finish this book, along with primer theory and technique/artistry, are allowed to move into the level 1 books when they finish. This provides for a fun and smooth transition to the next level.

My books did not come with CDs, but with a reference to online audio support. Although the picture on Amazon shows "with CD", my books show "audio included" and there are no CDs. The web address given in the book does not work for the Primer level book. I understand if the Fabers want to change from the CD format, but it must be easy for parents and students to access, and perhaps the price for books without CDs should be reduced.

This is a great product and my daughter loved the app that allows you to play along with accompaniment tracks. So great for new pianists.

Great for my son learning piano.

Use these in my music classroom. The songs are harder than the regular books at this level, but they are so fun that every kid has risen to the challenge. They can learn concepts ahead by using the CD and trusting their ear a bit. There may be a few unfamiliar concepts, but if you explain it quickly to help them get the song, you'll find that later when it comes up in the lesson book, it's so easy for them because they already "know it." For example, some of the songs have sharps, which aren't introduced until midway through the lesson book. But i just show them what note to play. Then when they get to sharps in the lesson book, they feel like experts already and can grasp it on a deeper level. Great for boosting students' ability, and great for student performances. Highly recommend. I use this as much as possible.

My daughter has used this series of Faber and Faber piano books for her piano lessons for a couple of years, and they are great books for students to learn the basics of piano.

Kids love these songs, and they are especially good for orienting children around the keyboard by making them move their hands to different octaves. The accompanying CD is great for giving the kids an audio reference. In general these pieces are very musical, fun to play, the duets are especially valuable for teaching musicality and cooperative listening skills... overall a great series!
My 7yo son was able to play the first song for his recital. The songs are a bit challenging for the Primer level, but that's what you want for a performance piece. I'm very pleased with this book. The songs are fun and the CD lets you know if you're playing it at the intended speed and tempo. I highly recommend.
