Sebastien Braun studied fine arts in Strasbourg, France. His first two books, I Love My Mommy and I Love My Daddy, have been hugely successful all over the world. Since then, Sebastien has gone on to create many more children's books. He lives in Gloucestershire, England, with his wife and two young sons. The Meeow books are the first one my little guy grabs when he sees the stack of books. I would highly recommend this series.

Meeow has a big brown box. Meeow is a creative black cat and is painting the box red. Soon Meeow makes the box . Soon Meeow makes the box into a fire engine. Meeow and the big box is perfect for teaching kids colors and shapes. The book is repetitive enough that kids can "read along" and guess to see what happens. This would be an ideal book for a young (toddler and pre-school) story time. With short sentences and a big font, this book tells the story of a black cat named Meeow and what Meeow does with a big box. The book encourages play, creativity, and imagination. The book uses several color words (brown, red, orange, blue, black).

Meow and the Big Box – Sebastian Braun.

With short sentences and a big font, this book tells the story of a black cat named Meeow and what Meeow does with a big box. Mar 13, 2019 Jennifer rated it really liked it. Shelves: cats, toddler-storytime, imagination, colors, shapes. Short sentences, colorful pictures, and a big font make this good for toddler story time. Since then, Sebastien has gone on to create many more books for children.

Like every child, Meeow loves to draw, paint and make things. In this first book in the series, watch as Meeow transforms an ordinary box into an amazing red fire engine using just a few objects from the around the house and lots of imagination. This fun-filled series promotes creative play, and encourages little ones to see what they can do too. show more.

.....but still a great toddler book, and the series as a whole gets a definite 5 stars from me. I agree with the other review that this one is my least favorite of the four, and I think that is because of the lack of interaction with the other animals. The cast of characters and their personalities are just so lovable, and the group play that happens in the other books is missing here, as Meeow plays solo in this one. But the "imaginative play" theme is still there, as is the lovely, simple cadence and language, and surprise ending, which make this so well suited for a young child. If you are a first time "Meeow" buyer I would try one of the others first to see how your child takes to it, either "Pots and Pans" or "Little Chairs." Don't let the bad review here scare you away, I think most children will love Meeow, but of course everyone is different. The author IS form another country...is that a bad thing?? The tone of the text, including the bold, block font, is reminiscent of Donald Crews or Byron Barton, so if you have any of those books and your child likes them I would give these a go for sure. My son is now almost three and still asks me to read these books(I thought he might be beyond them but they are still holding strong as favorites), so I went ahead and completed the collection with this one and I'm glad I did! I also bought all four for my niece for her 1st birthday and I think it makes a nice gift set that is a little different; not clothing or toys or another stand-by book by Eric Carle....not that we don't LOVE Carle's books...it's just that everyone knows and has them already. Meeow is a unique gem of a small series that most people probably won't know. Try one out and see for yourself!

What can I say? I have a six year old son with high functioning autism. He adores this book. We first got it (and the other two Meeow books) from the local library. He loved them so much that we decided to order them. It's nice when he finds books that he loves since we have had some difficulty encouraging him to read. If you have a child with autism, you may want to give these a try. They seem to have the right balance of sensory (not going into sensory overload) and flow of righting.

My 14 month old loves, loves, loves the Meeow books. And Mom and Dad don't mind them too much either. I think Meeow and the pots and pans is the best of the three that are currently available. Meeow and the little chairs comes in second and Meeow and the big box is my least favorite. The Meeow books are the first one my little guy grabs when he sees the stack of books. I would highly recommend this series. I'm looking forward to the newest installment.

Love the Meeow series of books. We now have found four. I am a foster parent and so far for 2 and 3 year olds this book beats Dr. Seuss.

Nice bright colors, text and illustrations! The Meeow books are fun but the structure is very similar. We got one and then wanted the others and probably would have been ok with one. We liked the Pots and Pans book the best

Awesome.... my little ones were able to create and dramatize the story when we read the book

Our little one seriously enjoys all Meeow books but this one is his favorite! Without spoiling the ending, our boy loves the color red and the the end result of Meeow's creative craftiness ;) Great author, right size format for little hands and the story line is delightful. Highly recommend!
My Prep, year 1 and year 2 class enjoyed the story. It fitted in very well with our current topic 'Boxes'. Its large clear text encouraged the preps to have a go at reading the story.
