Witch Hunt by Shirley Damsgaard is the 4th book in the Ophelia & Abby paranormal cozy mystery series. It doesn't matter if the bikers were bad or not. Ophelia decided who is guilty right away and no matter what anyone else says, she knows best

Witch Hunt by Shirley Damsgaard is the 4th book in the Ophelia & Abby paranormal cozy mystery series. I began reading the series a few years ago and am trying to catch up on all seven books that exist. Ophelia is the granddaughter of a witch, Abby, and she is learning how to use her powers, run a town library, and solve murders. The killings only started when she returned home. Ophelia decided who is guilty right away and no matter what anyone else says, she knows best. Somewhere around 60 or percent of the book, she finally has one normal thought: "Had I desperately twisted events to suit my premise?"

YouтАЩve laughed with me, cried with me, and been the voice of reason when I needed it. I couldnтАЩt have made it through the last five years without you. ItтАЩs your friendship that has inspired the one between Ophelia and Darci. YouтАЩve also inspired a few other things, too, but we wonтАЩt go there!) Contents.

Small-town librarian Ophelia Jensen is finally starting to embrace her lot as one of the "chosen"—a psychic and folk magick practitioner, a.k.a. a witch. Expert loving guidance from her magickally adept grandmother Abby helps—and adopting Tink, an exceptionally talented teenage medium, has given Ophelia's life new purpose . . . until a brutal murder clouds the sunshine of their days.

Ophelia's co-worker and best friend, Darci, is distraught when her cousin is implicated in the small Iowa town of Summerset's most recent murder—the violent death of a biker. Unfortunately for Darci's cousin, it's her fingerprints all over the murder weapon. She claims she's innocent, but it'll take Ophelia and Abby more than a good incantation or two to get to the bottom of this crime—what with ghosts, crooked cops, secret identities, and a small army of outlaw bikers thrown into this devil's brew.

All of a sudden, Ophelia's safe and empty house is buzzing with life and friend, so different than it was before. Tink is a new addition, though it surprised me that some of her spunk seemed to die down in this book compared to the last. I really expected her to be more of a spitfire. This mystery involves a group of bikers, all with snake names coming to town and shaking things up. Apparently Summerset has all the makings to be a hotspot for drug trafficking since it connects to highways going North, South, East, and West. That made sense but I still found myself saying "yeah, right" a couple of times. Once again its a frustrating point for the reader that Ophelia seems to have blinders on when she's psychic, but after reading it I think it actually makes sense. She often relies on prejudice and first impressions when she acts since she is after Cobra during most of the book even after Abby and the waitress say he's not really a bad guy. She can't see the truth there yet because she just hasn't gotten to that point as a person. She doesn't even fully accept her powers yet, still kind of in denial, so she just doesn't see things plainly in real life, just as in her dreams. She doesn't even see that she's the only thing holding herself back the whole time. At least now she's even more of a force to be reckoned with, rather than the angst ridden girl in the first book. The haunting was my favorite part and every time Ophelia caught a whiff of cigarette smoke my imagination went crazy trying to figure out what it meant. The mystery in this book was not hard to solve and I got it about halfway in, although I did hope I was wrong about the guy for his families sake. I also really liked Bill and Stumpy, or Arthur, getting bigger roles in this book. I especially liked Arthur's gift for her, nice touch. The ending drove me crazy not revealing what was in Cobra's note though, I reread it to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Ophelia Jensen, Foster Mother of a Medium, Tink and Granddaughter of an Appalachian Witch (Psychic Wise woman,) Abby is coming into her own psychically. When Ophelia's assistant at the library, Darcie needs her help, she defies Abby to immerse herself in a biker's murder.

Abby can only sense fear and is unable to back Ophelia in this latest case. Meanwhile Tink may be messing in areas that are dark and should be left alone.

This book really was about control. Control of their personal lives and control of others. Knowing one's boundaries in this world and in the psychic world.

Ms. Damsgaard writes with depth of subject. This makes each novel so compelling once you open the pages of the book. The novel deals with bad cops, evil bikers, ghosts, and so much more.

I find the series continues to interest me as it grows.

great series

A good book but not as good as others I have read in this series. Psychic powers are "damped" or "out of control" much of the time.

I already have a couple of books in this series and needed to add this one to my collection. It is an easy read and perfect for Halloween.
