This is very funny. I read these Black Stallion books as a kid. Loved them since I loved horses and always wanted one. Our daughter mentioned that she was going through the series and re-reading these books, which piqued my curiosity and I began to read them, also. Still love them! Walter Farley knew horses. He didn't make simple mistakes in describing them or discussing the things that Alec and Henry discussed. He knew horses. I've had a horse or more since 1973 and still love them. These are great reads.

This book was written decades ago and it still stands as a great testament to Mr. Farley.
Alec travels thousands of miles to find his great horse. Facing possible death and strange lands Alec manages to heal a broken friendships between two warring factions and come to terms with the fact that his beloved horse belongs in the wild foreign country.

This book was not what I expected. I expected Alec to enter a race with a horse in a foreign country or something. It was something close to that, but not how I expected it. This book is simply AMAZING!! I couldn't imagine any better way to continue the story.

Alec is shocked when he learns that someone is out to kill his beautiful Stallion! The next day a man comes and claims he owns the Black. Alec is devastated. Mr. Volec, the owner of Sun Raider comes and decides to help Alec. The group travel across the desert with a young housekeeper and a guide. A sandstorm splits the group from their camels. Only Alec's is left. The guide was murdered during the storm, and only half a container of water is left. They push to their destination and kill the camel after collecting its liquid. They eat camel meat. How will the group survive? Find out in The Black Stallion Returns!

When I was in elementry school we were required to take a book from the Library each week, take it home, read it and retun the next week. I did but never read the book. I just took any book off the shelf. We had a substitute teacher who noticed that this is what I did and asked why I did not read the book. I told her that I did not like to read. She asked me what was the thing I loved most. Horses of course. She took this book off the shelf and encouraged me to read at least the first chapter. It took me 3 days to read it and I have been an avid reader since. I bought the book for my daughters some 40 plus years ago and now for my youngest granddaughter who is seven years old now. If your child loves horses, get this book for him or her. It is a wonderful tale of adventure.

I have read nearly all of the Black Stallion books and this one is the best in my opinion. In beginning of the book someone tries to kill the Black, the day after that his true owner comes and takes him. Later the owner of Sun Raider (the horse the Black races in the first book), Alec and Henry go to Arabia in search of Abu Ben Ishak and the Black. As the book continues a complex plot evolves. I have read this book twice and I think that Farley did a wonderful job, the vocabulary varies like all of the books in the series. If you like the series I would definitely not miss this one.

I had a much beloved dog when I was a child, so naturally I read every book I could find in the school library about dogs. And then one day, much to my dismay, I found I had read every dog book in the library - what was I to do? It was then I discovered Walter Farley's 'Black Stallion.' It opened a whole new avenue of reading adventures from Alex's first encouter with the Black, to the shipwreck and island adventure of boy and horse. And then I read 'The Black Stallion Returns' and thought it was even better than the first book. These are books to be shared with my grandchildren and great-grandchildren - great adventure stories (and yes, girls like horses and adventure, too.)

I enjoyed this second book by Walter Farley. The book is written for a younger age but enjoyable by all.
The book is in great condition. Unfortunately, the advertised picture does not match the picture on the book received, which sometimes can be a disappointment.
