book by George H. Morris. This book made my career as a winning beginner instructor. Published by Thriftbooks. com User, 19 years ago. A classic book of horsemanship is back in print. George's beginner book had a tremendous influence on elevating my skills as an instructor of beginner riders. Even working as a part-time instructor, my riders had more blue ribbons and championships (from leadline and walk/trot to 2'6" fences) at local and some recognized AHSA shows than students riding with full-time professionals on more expensive horses.

Back in print after more than a dozen years, this clear and concise manual presents the fundamentals of hunter-seat riding, from the novice rider's first lesson up to the basics of jumping. The book focuses on the author's acclaimed system of exercises that promote proper position in the saddle while also correcting deviations from correct form and control. 4 people like this topic.

The book is geered more towards the teachers and riders who have a great self awareness and control. Наиболее популярные в Научная литература. Показать все. this is a very handy hands-on users-guide for teachers and riders. i did find, as a trainer, that I already employ many of his techniques... and was recently at a clinic-horse expo.. and it was good to have just read this... as it drew my attention to little things-- which i do automatically... and so having read the book.. noticed how much most trainers do not do... like " find the exercise".. rather than dictate information about their riding. telling a rider to strengthen their leg, will not strengthen their leg. find the exercise to help them strengthen the leg... etc... I have already developed most of the e3xercise-tools for foundation riding.. so I found the reminders beneficial. it is a good heads-up for a new trainer to consider this.. it might be more beneficial if there were some actual exercises included... but I think each trainer probably needs to find their own best approach. So the knowing is as important as being handed the actual "tool" to accomplish it.

I highly recommend.. especially in combination with the hunter seat equitation book, which lays out theory and concept:)

One of best books for show jumpers. An Olympic coach and one of the founding riders in Gordon Wright and Bert de Nemethy's re-innovation of American forward seat show jumping.

I bought this when I was just beginning English riding lessons. It actually makes more sense to me after having a few lessons, I use it a reference for whatever my trainer has me working on. The photos comparing incorrect and correct techniques are very helpful.

George Morris is so experienced and so good at getting his ideas and philosophy into written words that it should be no surprise to anyone that this little book has great value. He not only addresses the basic approach but also goes into how an effective instructor should manage his/her approach, students and horses.

I liked the book, but there wasn't a whole lot about position/form, etc. I think you have to get that from his other book, hunter seat eq. This book is designed more towards the trainer, or for the rider on what to expect when at the stable and taking a lesson. Typical old style George Morris, with lots of direct talk.
