GREAT BOOK for the Collection

What a fun read this comprehensive retrospective study of the American movie industry. People, places, things, ideas galore along with fascinating black 'n white/color publicity and on-screen photos combine to tell the story of each and every facet of the most collaborative of art forms. To know where films have come in the 21st century, these almost 200 pages provide informative and interesting background. From Woody Allen through Adolph Zukor and Edison peep shows through Lucas blockbusters with everyone and everything in between, hooray for (100 Years of) Hollywood!

Having first checked it out from my local library, I now happily refer to it frequently after purchase for a permanent place in my own personal home library. The impressive quality of this Time-Warner book is not only in keeping with their other publications but also equal to some of my collection of tinsel town literature and even superior to others. Count this as a must buy for both the casual movie buff and die hard cinephile.

Text and photos blend nicely together to make for a marvelous book. The best of its kind in all these similar books that I have seen.

Hundreds of great pictures, but skip the text. The writing is no more than typical bland captioning, with no insight and absolutely nothing provocative or controversial. Very middle-of-the-road approach to Film History. I expected better from Time-Life, but the photos still earn the book 5 stars.
