Since this book was published, saturated fat, especially coconut oil and butter, have been clearly found not to cause heart disease; likewise egg yolks are no longer considered harmful. But overall the book does a good job of helping the reader understand what foods are good and which are harmful. The recipes and meal plans are good and though they do exclude some fats recently 'cleared' for healthy eating, the recommendations for healthy foods are good choices. Recommended for persons looking for the basics in healthy eating.

Brett Blumenthal's "GET REAL" and Stop Dieting eliminates much of the confusion and contradiction people hear about nutritional advice. By focusing on whole foods, fiber, lean proteins, and healthy fats, one can construct a gameplan to stay healthy. I learned some neat things -- such as quinoa being a complete protein, and which fibers are soluble. She taught me that spices can often replace salt and sugar with relatively few calories. I like the preferred brands chapter an awful lot, because it allows the reader to find the best items easily in the grocery store. And for those of you who love to cook, Brett includes recipe for every meal as well as snacks and dessert. Now that I've read GET REAL and enjoyed it, I plan on keeping this book closeby to make sure I keep on track with my nutrition and weight-loss goals. I highly recommend this book!

This is a good read and talks about some of the shortcomings of "diets". Definitely worth reading if you want to eat healthier or lose weight. It doesn't have all the answers and you should read it with an open mind but some skepticism.

If you can eat the kinds of foods that you love (in moderation, of course) and lose weight, why wouldn't you?

I am enjoying reading this book. It's easy to understand. It will be such a smooth transition to eating properly and changing my thoughts about food.
I really liked this...brought up many good points but I haven't finished all of it yet. Hoping to finish it soon.
