Caitlyn Sachs has a great life. A family she loves, check. An incredible design job working with her best friends, Tristan and Matt, check. An amazing home she shares with the guys, double check. But her upcoming twenty-fifth birthday and the desire to shed the burden of her virginity have spurred her to consider something shocking. All she wants is one uncomplicated night with one of her best friends, no strings attached. But how can she choose?

Except there's another problem. Tristan and Matt are already involved sexually with each other, much to Cait's shock. And both men have long harbored feelings for Cait that go way beyond friendship. When they whisk her away for her birthday to a cabin in the mountains, she discovers the extent of their lust--and her own. The gift they give her is one she'll never forget.

But when the weekend's over, will she retreat to the safety of the status quo, if they'll even let her, or will she finally embrace what she's secretly craved for so long?

A Booklikes friend of mine recommended this as one that might get me out of my erotica reading slump. She said it was one of the best menage books she'd read, and that she liked "that it deals with a lot of the issues that get glossed over normally." I can see what she meant: a lot of the conflict in this vaguely holiday-themed story stems from the three lovers working through the sticky but basic issues that any polyamorous relationship involving real people would have to address -- i.e., how to tell the 'rents, what about public displays of affection, what are the rules when one of the threesome is away, what will happen if/when someone wants to have a baby, etc. In that way, it was definitely the most realistic menage book I've read. I also appreciated that the two male participants were lovers before the woman came on board, and thus they had their own attraction and emotional connection to each other. (I don't find menage stories where the men pay no attention to each other and focus entirely on the lady believable at all.)

My main problem with this story was that the female protagonist was a dewy-eyed 25-year-old virgin ... because reasons. She'd been crushing on both the male protagonists for ages, but unable to choose between them, so she just dated other people who couldn't live up to the heroes and kept her pants zipped. Uh huh. Also, she thinks her mom and sisters are slutty low class tramps, and she didn't want to be like them, so she kept her pants zipped. (Yeah, I could have done without the classist slut-shaming, thanks... though she does kind of see the error of her ways before the book is out.)

I don't see how her being a virgin was necessary to the plot, and I find 25-year-old virgins in contemporary settings pretty inplausible unless they've been brought up in a religious commune in East Bumbleshoot, but even accepting Cait's virginity for argument's sake... when she turns out to be a sexual Mary Sue on her maiden voyage, deep throating one of the men without a qualm, even shooting a porno of their threesome during their very first night together, it just surpassed my ability to willingly suspend disbelief.

Also, one of the men is a little too alpha for my tastes in the early encounters, skirting the edge of consent/coercion, though he comes down on the right side of the line and mellows into a pretty decent guy by the end.

I am a true fan of Cari Quinn, and this was my first read! This story delivered so much more than what the publishers warning promised. It is a love story told from the perspective of one woman and two men who have been friends forever. Sharing their feelings for one another is not their only obstacle. What will their families say? What will other people think of them? They even learn to see their family members in a more loving and accepting light. I absolutely adore this story of love, friendship, commitment and acceptance.
I enjoyed the book. But i had the oddest sense of Dejavue while reading it. Three best friends deciding to take their releationship to the next level has been done a time or two. It had some tender moments, some hot moments, and a few laughs thrown in. Nothing that made it stand out.
This book was not bad, but it did not blow my socks off either. It has it's moments, so if you are considering this against another book with a higher rating, I'd vote to go for the other book.
My Review:
This book was so good. I loved the premise of the story. This romance features three friends (yes, it's a friends to lovers trope...you all know that I LOVE those.) These friends live together in the loft above their design business that they all own and work at together.

The heroine in the story is twenty-five and a virgin. She's not inexperienced. She just hasn't done that final step involved with losing her virginity. She has a mother and two sisters that are pretty sexually promiscuous, so Cait has done everything in her power NOT to be like them. She doesn't approve with the choices that they have made and wants to make sure that she doesn't make the same "mistakes", but that means that she is a 25 yo virgin, and even she knows that isn't normal. She trusts her roommates enough to help take care of her little problem. She just doesn't know how to choose which one should do the deed. When she arrives home to discuss it with them, though, she is horrified and more than a little turned on to realize that her male roommates have been doing the deed together, without her.

I really liked the way that this story is done. It seems like a long stretch to go from virgin to menage in one step, but Cari wrote it really well and believably...and it isn't quite a single step. The emotions are here for all three of these characters. They have been friends for a long time so it isn't much of a stretch to move that to love, but it just as easily shifts to hurt when one of them feels left out...which happens quite a bit. They are dealing with lots here....Cait's perceptions of sexual promiscuity, the boys issues with the fact that they are sexually active together (neither has come out as bi-sexual), the social stigma of a triad relationship, and the issue of trying to run a business when dealing with the emotional issues of a relationship in upheaval.

I really loved all the characters, but I fell in love with Matt. I loved how he came up with a fantasy plan and how it all blew up in his face...his reaction to that situation simply made my heart melt. He handles both Cait and Tristan so well. He thinks that Cait's the glue that holds them all together, but I think that is truly Matt.

And, of course, you know this book is going to be hot...it's one of Cari's books. ;o) And it is....SO HOT!! Lots of amazing sex scenes in this one to keep you warm through the holiday season....I loved it when they went up to the secluded cabin in the snowy woods...so romantic and fabulous for a tryst...or a few of them...LOL! Did I mention there is a LOT of really sexy sex in this one?
