Henry emigrated to Canada early in 1951. After struggling for a few years to get on his feet, he did his graduate work in English Lit at the University of Toronto. The late F. This epic is the first to see it in its entirety, as a matrix which binds the whole together in a national mythology.

He first came to national attention with the controversial literary/political journal Edge (Edmonton 1963 – Montreal 1969).
