Choices - George Pettett. 1. The streetcar bound for Luckie Street left the northwest Atlanta neighborhood known as Cox’s Crossing each morning at 7:15. A dark-haired young woman boarded alone and hurried to be seated on a bench as close to the motorman as possible. These electrically-pulsed arteries moved the mass of Atlanta’s citizens to and from their daily endeavors in 1909. The streetcars were too small to be comfortable – benches were hard, interiors drab and colorless with poor ventilation, and the swaying motion made stomachs queasy – but they worked.

Atlanta, Early 1900s: An era when Southern parents cling to a custom of making decisions for their young upon reaching the age of 21 and often beyond. Two young women become friends across their sewing machines at a small factory. One, shy and sheltered too long by an overprotective parent, is pleased to receive attention from a young man who is equally awestruck by machines on wheels called automobiles propelling a city into a new way of life. She has to choose between loyalty to family and her individuality. Her friend is more confident and self-reliant, but when a visiting Navy man leaves town with a claim on her heart she must come to terms with inflexible military authority. Parents face adjustments of their own, and some do it more gracefully than others. These stories run parallel and then diverge, but the friendship endures.

Great read!
GODMAX
"Choices" is a great story of love in the city of Atlanta, Georgia in the early Twentieth century. Pettett's characters are the shy and awkward youth of another time but with the same feelings and needs of today's youth. Mr. Pettett has interwoven history into his story that a few of us may have heard from our grandparents but now can live through his characters. This is a good read for those who want to escape the hectic, fast paced world of today.
