In book five Miss Julia is so disgusted by "the passing of the collection plates" for supposedly religious purposes that she remembers being "corrected" by a preacher for not calling the collection "the offering. In Miss Julia Throws a Wedding, the pianist for the wedding, one of Lillian's black friends, accompanies a white police lieutenant whose vocal range is unexpected and out of character, at least from Miss Julia's point of view-and the lieutenant's character is of more concern to her than that of the pianist.

Then he said, Did she tell you?. Lillian? How does she know?. Lillian knows a lot of things, believe me. Anyway, the thing is, do you know?. What’re we talking about?. We’re talking about the fact that Lillian says that Binkie’s expecting a baby.

I've read 4 of the Miss Julia books. The 1st in the series was wonderful. The last one (published this year) was dreadful. The 2nd book in the series was okay. This third falls on the dreadful side. Everything is frenetic. Too much going on at once -- a wedding that might not come off, a petty thief on the loose, a weird gathering across the street from Miss Julia's house (that takes her forever to investigate), and way too many dumb characters. The book doesn't work on any level. And although this was a new book, every-other right-hand page had a wrinkle in it -- obviously from the printer. This will be the last time I read Miss Julia.

That woman wears me out. I'm just glad it's her and not me. She's a good woman, has good intentions but can she ever find problems or do they just follow her and wait to pounce. Great characters in Ms. Ross' books and I love that and they are never slow or boring. Just go with Ann Ross & Julia and find yourself entertained. Enjoy the ride--they're off again. Don't miss it!!!. The only one I was disappointed with of Miss Julia was the one about the present/gift. Just wasn't enough substance there for me, but You may like it.

The Miss Julia novels are just good fun. As a slice of Southern life, you also get glimpses of and era, and manners and customs, that are unfamiliar to some and just like coming home to those who grew up and live in similar communities.

I liked the fact that I am involved in the story and don't want to stop reading until last page. Even then, I want to read more books.

I am enjoying this series very much. There is humor, love and friendship. It is the best kind of story.
