It was a name that caused the most hardened gunmen to break out in a cold sweat. He could have ridden the outlaw trail, but the Texas Rangers recruited him because they didn't want to have to fight against him. Pursuing the most wanted men in the Southwest he knew all too well the dusty trails, the bitter cattle feuds, the desperate killers and the quiet, weather-beaten, wind-blasted towns that could explode into actions with the wrong word

This is a great collection of Texas Ranger tales. And with Bowdrie on a case it doesn't take long for his observant eyes and keen mind to tie all the loose ends in a tidy knot. I have read these more than once and never tire of following close at Chick's heels as he goes picking up the clues. No words are wasted but neither is the reader left wanting. A satisfying way to spend an evening.

Chick Bowdrie is one of my favorite LaMour lawman characters. He is always tough, always a gentleman, and always gets his man. There are no full length novels with Bowdrie in them, just these short stories. I think that is fitting for the character because he simply moves from one case to another doing what he was meant to do, catch (or kill) the bad guys, protect the innocent, and keep the peace. The fact that he has an ornery hammerhead roan horse and he feels at home alone on the trail are just added benefits that make him a near perfect archetypal hero who is going about doing good.

I love Louis L'Amour Westerns, and who doesn't love a Texas Ranger! Chick Bowdrie is the persona of the Texas Ranger - tough as leather, fast with a gun, and takes no lip. He has sworn to carry out the law, but there were times when he has to apply justice with his fists and his guns. His name caused the most hardened gunmen to break out in a cold sweat.

Bowdrie's Law is a collection of short stories starring this great character. The Texas Rangers made a name for themselves in a lawless land, and L'Amour, famous for his historical accuracy and amount of research that goes into his books, transports you back into that era making you feel like you're Bowdrie's sidekick watching all the action firsthand. .

I purchased these for my husband. I read to him at night. He enjoyed them. I felt they were lacking passion and depth. They are very simple and two dimensional. I didn't realize they were short stories either.

Great book! I liked that each chapter was a different story about the same Texas Ranger and took only 15 or 20 minutes to read. Lots of lamour action.

Bought this short stories book, as a gift, along with many others. The legend goes that Louis L'Amour started his impressively long career writing short stories for a paper. Later in life, he expanded many of his short stories into novels. After he passed on, his family had much of his unfinished work published in his honor. If it's not BANTAM, it's not official.

This was a collection of stories about Chick Bowdrie, TX Ranger. Most were enjoyable but in a couple, there were too many names of people to keep track of.
Quick read while putting you in the saddle with Chick. Roaming the west as it once was. Vast and beautiful.
