I love that this is old. I feel like today's kids are filled with fluff instead of solid foundations. This book seems to set very solid foundations and move forward from there. One step at a time. A Classic that is still useful and relevant!

Math - never easy for me. So, I'm starting at the beginning with my sons. Mr. Ray's work educated the men who constructed the infrastructure of this nation. We will repair, expand, and improve it. This math course is a leading tool towards that end. It is simple to follow, easy to understand, even mentally challenged accessible! Think of what you could do knowing Mathematics and understanding how it relates to the real, physical world! Start with the primary arithmetic and don't stop till you have reached the unreachable star!

I love the content of the Ray's Arithmetic books and will continue to purchase them. However, I am aggravated by the cheap binding on the paperback editions reprinted by Mott Media, which is currently the only company publishing them. Using these books daily, the binding falls apart and the pages fall out after only a few months! Each book is supposed to cover two grades of school, and then I reuse them for my younger kids as they grow... or at least I was planning to!

At least the printing is good quality, better than many reprinters I've had the annoyance of dealing with!

Next time I buy a Ray's Arithmetic, I'll buy a hardcover edition if I can.

Just the right book for child who can read well but doesn't care for math! Lot's of text to keep your reader busy.

It's a basic arithmetic book. By the time your kids is done the book, they will know how to count well, add, subtract, multiply and divide basic whole numbers.

Could also be used as the teacher reads to the students. Starts with 1 page on basic counting. Moves up. Read on traditional recitation of lesson (has only a few, for addition, subtraction, multiplication tables etc. Slim book, Around 95 pages. At this price even if it's softcover you could probably just buy a new one for each child. If your child is in 1st/ 2nd grade consider getting a more modern book or the next book in the series as many 1st graders nowadays are doing fractions and this book doesn't cover fractions, shapes, geometry, etc. Not sure it covers placements either (tens, hundreds, thousands).

I have the Original Ray's Arithmetic Primer and liked it very much. I noticed this one is a little different. The type face a little bigger, the book a bit bigger, and the problems a little simpler. I like this one very much and am considering purchasing a second one since I have 3 in Primary Math. It' great for oral exercises and for giving you ideas. Plus it's the right size for little hands once they are old enough to read. You won't regret this book one bit.

Perfect to help homeschoolers and all children to be able to quantify and use what they know to solve problems of any kind.

Perfect for our homeschool math curriculum, we r going back to the basics that existed in Laura Ingalls time.
I liked the concept of using it, but really never could get my modern child to use this program effectively.
