While the book was about the x-men, I found myself more interested in what was happening with the mutant teenagers from Ohio. They could've been great if introduced in the comics. The book introduces five young mutants that are entertaining refreshing. Chapter art is done by Roger Cruz (the artist of X-Man) and adds flavor to the book itself.

1997) (A book in the X-Men series) A novel by eluki bes shahar. September 1997 : USA Mass Market Paperback. government wants to use this procedure to eliminate the so-called "mutant menace" once and for all. But the X-Men soon learn that the true source of the procedure is their old enemy, Sinister.

Eluki Bes Shahar is certainly one of the better writers Marvel has gotten for their novels. So anyway, I encourage all X-Men fans especially R&R ones to get this book. Ms. Shahar manages to both do justice to established characters, such as the X-Men and Mr. Sinister, while bringing life to new creations, such as the wonderful "Ohio Mutant Conspiracy. The only flaw I could find was the Wolverine-like woman; it seemed to detract from the rest of the work. Otherwise, highly recommended for Marvel Comics fans. 3 people found this helpful.

I had this book when I was younger ,so to find it & enjoy it all over again was worth it. Spoiler alert , you can see bits from the movies from this book such as the cure. Love reading Rogue the way she really is in the comics, much better than the movies. Wish this book was either a comic book or a graphic novel. Love this book.

I love reading Marvel Universe books but this one let me down. There was not enough action and became boring at times. Had to read it three separate times because I kept forgetting parts.

If you like X-Mans, you'll love this X-Mans.

This novel brings the magic of the comic to simple words. While some of the action moments loose from having no pictures, the gains of only words make for great reading.
Proffessor Arnold Bocklin has discovered the specific gene for mutation, and a way to remove it, albeit with a high mortality rate. Now, with the probable passing of a bill that calls for forcing medical procedures, the X-Men have to do something, before they are all forcibly changed to humans or dead. Of course, becoming human isn't such a bad thing to some mutants, especially Rogue, who is torn between desperately wanting to lead a normal life and kiss Gambit, and staying a mutant with the joys of family the X-Men bring. However, the choice is torn from her as a plan to locate the labs goes awry.
An excellent sub-plot follows a group of kids, as they try to escape from agents planning to test the process on them.
This novel is excellent, especially for fans of the Gambit-Rogue romance. Scenes of the two of the together abound, including Remy distraught over his lady-love.

I really enjoyed this book, and I intend on reading other novels by Eluki Bes Shahar. I won't describe this book other than to say I really enjoyed the platonic love scenes between Gambit and Rogue and her aching decision to undergo the treatment that may kill her. All this just to lead "a normal life" if there is such a thing.

I would rate this book PG 13 for comic-book code violence as well as it's dark subject matter.

Smoke and mirrors is right... sometimes, one can't see the big picture becaue of it. Okay, picture this. Someone finds a "cure" for mutation, and as it seems, it will become law to have the procedure done if you're a mutant. The Catch? You only have a fifty-fifty chance at survival. And strangely enough, no one can really pin point the person who supposedly discovered the cure, or what his intenions are. Into that pot, throw a couple off teens (mutants all) who are wannabe superheros, Mr. Sinister and what seems to be a resurection of the Weapon X project. Last but not least, have the X-Men try to save the day, and stop this from becoming law. Recepie for X-citement I'd say!

What can i say? I'm really happy with this book. It was interesting and the characters were well portrayed. I'm a big Gambit & Rogue fan so for me it's especially nice to see a book with them as major contributing characters. I have fallen in love with the Ohio Mutant Conspiracy! I don't want to give the book away so i won't say anything else about them. This book kept me guessing the end up until it! Very few books have pulled that one on me. Obviously we all know who the villian is in this book, so that was a dead giveaway but i mean other than that i have no issues with this book. In fact it's one of my favs! I'd like to see another book dedicated just to the Ohio Mutant Conspiracy, they are amazing characters.

So anyway, I encourage all X-Men fans especially R&R ones to get this book. If you enjoy X-Men books and like to see new and interesting characters this is the book for you.
